Siete Mares Soup

Popular in Mexico’s coastal regions, seven seas soup is an authentic dish that features a unique flavor profile. Add a lime wedge and some cilantro, and you have an easy-to-make dish enjoyable to eat!

Ingredients

Fried
• 1 green bell pepper, diced
• 1 red bell pepper, diced
• 2 white onions, diced
• 2 tomatoes, diced
• 2 stalks of celery, diced
• 4 carrots, diced
• 2 bay leaves
• 2 garlic cloves
• Ground black pepper
• Salt
• Oregano
• 1 can of tomato sauce
• Shrimp bouillon

Soup
• 1 fish head
• ½ lb. of cooked calamari
• ½ lb. of cooked octopus

Raw
• 1 lb. of shrimp with heads and shelled
• 1 lb. of cut catfish pieces
• 1 lb. of crab legs
• 1 lb. of shelled mussels

Garnish
• 1 white onion, diced
• Cilantro, chopped
• Lime wedges
• Northgate Corn Tortillas
• Tostadas
• Roasted chile de arbol peppers

Directions

1. Sautee onion, tomatoes, carrots, celery, garlic, bell peppers, tomato sauce, salt and pepper in a saucepan. Set aside.
2. Boil 4 liters of water, add fish head and shrimp bouillon.
3. Add sautéed vegetables, let boil for a couple of minutes, then add in crab legs, octopus, calamari, mussels, and shrimp.
4. Add catfish pieces last and let boil until fish is cooked through.
5. Serve soup with onion, cilantro, lime, chile de arbol peppers, and tortillas or tostadas.
